Christopher Ritzcovan has been the Head Winemaker at Jefferson Vineyards in Charlottesville, Virginia since 2013. A University of Virginia graduate, Chris joined the Jefferson team in 2007 as assistant winemaker, bringing with him a lifelong love of the land and a deep appreciation for the craft of winemaking.His very first vintage as head winemaker set the tone for what was to come — the 2013 Viognier earned a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition in 2014. Since then, Jefferson Vineyards has consistently earned top honors at some of the most prestigious competitions in the country, including Best of Class awards at the Virginia Governor's Cup, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, and the San Francisco International Wine Competition. Chris remains deeply committed to continuing Thomas Jefferson's vision of producing world-class wine in Virginia and to elevating the Commonwealth's wine industry on the national stage.
